veruccae and warts

Verrutop®

Verrutop® is a new, almost painless treatment for stubborn verrucae and warts. It is particularly suitable for children from 6 years as it requires no dressings.

Where there is a build-up of callus over the verruca(e) this will be debrided before the treatment is applied – ensuring the treatment is in direct contact with the verruca or wart.

Once applied, the verrucae will gradually turn darker in colour and dry out. This starts to happen within a few days.

Clinical trials have reported a remission rate of 89% of patients after a maximum of 6 applications.

Appointments are required every 2 weeks.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen to the lesion to destroy the affected tissues and trigger the immune system to destroy the underlying virus. The amount of time taken to freeze the area will vary depending on its size and location, with larger lesions requiring more treatment. Firstly, the lesion will be reduced with a scalpel. Once the area has been frozen a small scab or blister usually forms. It uses extreme cold therefore is an uncomfortable procedure. Some discomfort can also be expected a few days after treatment.

Usually, a number of treatments are required at around 2-4 week intervals. As with any verruca treatment option it is not 100% guaranteed to work; some verruca may go after two treatments of cryotherapy whereas others may not clear after ten.

Successful treatment enables patients to carry out activities such as swimming without the worry that they may spread the virus.
